Reconciling your career with family life

Promoting compatibility between family and career is important, particularly during the skilled worker shortage that is predominant in many parts of Germany. Not only does child supervision play a fundamental role here but also family members that need care. Thanks to this extensive support offering, living conditions are expected to improve in the Mayen-Koblenz district and, at the same time, job market availability will be ensured for people who are at an employable age. To ensure this, one-year-olds already have a legal claim to a place in a daytime nursery; however, the daytime nursery not freely selectable. In addition, kindergarten attendance is non-contributory for children two years and older in Rhineland-Palatinate, and the construction of sufficient childcare facilities is always ensured.

Kindergartens offer very good business hours to allow working parents to reconcile their career with their family. During school holidays, voluntary providers, municipalities and youth organizations continuously expand their holiday care offerings, and the University of Koblenz-Landau also offers university technical vacation camps. Nowadays, many companies even provide the option of caring for employees’ children at their premises. Personnel policy that takes family into account is becoming increasingly fundamental for acquiring skilled workers. The more than 105 daycare centers (1,920 places for children up to three years old and 5,460 for children 3 years and older until they enroll in school) are supplemented by numerous in-home daycare providers that allow for supervision during the closing times of daytime nurseries and even on the weekend.

There is also a consulting service to obtain quick help on care for family members that require it.
