Location information

The Mayen-Koblenz economic region offers very good development conditions for companies thanks to its central geographical location and optimal transport connections. The diverse landscape with the urban Rhine Valley, the idyllic Moselle Valley, the open landscape of the Maifeld and the low mountain range landscape of the Eifel form a pleasant, diverse living space.

The University of Koblenz-Landau, Koblenz University of Applied Sciences and the WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management in Vallendar stand for qualified education on site and functioning technology and knowledge transfer with the regional economy.

The landscape in the district was significantly shaped by volcanism. The Laacher See volcano last erupted 12,900 years ago. The volcanic cones of the Eastern Eifel are still visible in the landscape today. Pumice, tuff and basalt are the valuable witnesses of this past, which have been quarried in the region for thousands of years - just like slate. Even today, there are still many companies in the building, stone and earth industry, which are evidence of the great importance of this sector in the recent past.

In addition to this sector, metal processing, mechanical engineering, the food industry, mineral springs, breweries, the paper and hygiene industry, medical technology and software development are key areas in a heterogeneous economy. In agriculture, viticulture on the Rhine and Moselle is particularly noteworthy.

Tourism as the market of the future

With the 27 premium hiking trails "Traumpfaden" and 14"Traumpfädchen", the region plays in the Champions League of hiking and offers the romance of the Rhine in the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley, the steepest vineyards of the Moselle and the volcanoes of the Eastern Eifel, different landscapes in a small area and thus pure variety for guests from near and far. They can all expect an excellent infrastructure for hiking (Traumpfade, Rheinsteig, Moselsteig) and cycling, tourist lighthouses such as Eltz Castle - "the" German knight's castle, Lake Laach, Sayn Castle and Castle, Bürresheim Castle or the juniper heaths of the Eastern Eifel, as well as numerous star-rated guesthouses.

Rhein-Mosel-Eifel-Touristik (REMET) is committed to strengthening the tourism offer in Mayen-Koblenz.

Transport infrastructure Mayen-Koblenz

The district of Mayen-Koblenz is located on the Rhine and Moselle between the Rhine-Ruhr and Rhine-Main conurbations. It is bordered by Koblenz, the largest city in northern Rhineland-Palatinate and an independent regional center. Andernach, Bendorf and Mayen are the three largest towns within the district, which is otherwise divided into seven municipalities.

The ports of Andernach, Bendorf, Weißenthurm and the port of the city of Koblenz are located on Europe's largest waterway. The two highways A 61 and A 48 with the Koblenz freeway junction, together with the federal highways, ensure access to the entire European highway network.

The district is connected to the long-distance rail network by the IC train station in Koblenz and the ICE stop Koblenz-Montabaur. Not only are all major European and German cities easily accessible by train: Connections in the Rhine and Moselle valleys, from Andernach to Mayen and for freight traffic via Koblenz-Andernach-Mayen guarantee supply by rail.
