Energy and hydrogen network

Middle Rhine.Eifel.Westerwald.

As part of the HyStarter programme funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport, the city of Bendorf, together with the WFG am Mittelrhein and numerous network partners, defined hydrogen as a building block of the regional energy supply in 2022/2023 and developed a concept for the realization of a decentralized hydrogen economy. As a result, an energy and hydrogen network was founded to continue working on the formulated goals.

In summer 2024, the network of 14 municipal and private-sector partners submitted a funding application to the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection. Once the funding has been approved, project work will begin at the end of 2024/beginning of 2025.

The objectives of the "Mittelrhein.Eifel.Westerwald Energy and Hydrogen Network" are to develop the Bendorf port area as a hydrogen hub, to open up the region for hydrogen infrastructure with the construction of renewable energy plants and to decarbonize industry and the transport and heating sector through the provision of renewable energies.

The network participants represent the different perspectives and interests of the political, economic and social players in the region and would like to contribute these on their behalf to the discussion on implementing a regional energy transition.

The WFG represents the interests of industry and small and medium-sized enterprises. Stakeholders who are interested in cooperating with the Mittelrhein.Eifel.Westerwald energy and hydrogen network are welcome to contact the WFG am Mittelrhein.
